Update 8/17/2020: MBT has issued a new schedule of classes to all current families for the 2020-2021 academic year. The new schedule is adjusted to accommodate needs identified during parent/student surveys for both in-studio and virtual class options, and to accommodate COVID-19 recovery Phase 2 guidelines for capacity. This webpage has been updated to include the virtual and hybrid options. Additional sections may be added based on demand, or as COVID recovery allows for additional capacity in the studios. Please let us know if you don’t see a schedule that meets your needs.
Since 1989, MBT has served Maryland’s Montgomery County region with exceptional dance education, community outreach, and inspiring performances. MBT’s Academy offers classes in Creative Movement, Early Ballet, Classical Ballet, Contemporary Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, and more, for ages 3 through adult. MBT offers classes for beginners as well as a track for pre-professional ballet students, and several performing opportunities for all students.
Please call the office at 301-762-1757 to register for any class or to schedule a free trial/placement class. Thank you!
MBT’s dance studios are located near I-270 in Gaithersburg, MD and Clarksburg, MD, easily accessible to students from Rockville, Germantown, Olney, Frederick, Washington D.C., and other nearby communities throughout the region. MBT performs two major ballets annually at the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center in Rockville, MD.
To register for any youth dance class – complete the registration form, then mail, email (contact@mbtdance.org) or bring your form to MBT. Your place in class is only guaranteed with your registration materials and deposit, and after you have confirmed availability and placement with our artistic staff for a particular class day/time. You may establish a payment plan at the time of registration.

Academic Ballet Levels 1-4
For the serious young dancer, Academic Ballet offers training in ballet technique starting at age 7, and continuing through high school, with a pre-professional dance curriculum for those students who may be interested in pursuing a career in dance. Emphasis is placed on learning classical ballet technique while building strength and flexibility, confidence, musicality, and artistry.
As students progress through the program, more frequent training is required in order to accomplish the curriculum.
All Academic Ballet programs require faculty placement and full-year enrollment. Please call the office to schedule a placement class.
Students will focus their training in either the Classical Division or Contemporary Division starting at Academic Ballet Level 5.
All Academic Ballet classes are held at MBT-Gaithersburg except select sections of Ballet 1, as noted.
In the instance that we cannot produce planned performances due to COVID restrictions, video will be taken in in-studio classes and shared with parents. The Nutcracker 2020 season will look very different due to COVID restrictions; please see email from office.

Adaptive Dance
MBT’s Adaptive Ballet Program encourages integration into mainstream classes for ambulatory dancers with special needs ranging from developmental, orthopedic, cognitive, and behavioral impairments. One-on-one assistants are encouraged to join class with the student if needed. Funding for a one-on-one class assistant may also be available through a generous MBT donor if your family needs assistance. Please inquire for details.
Private Classes
MBT offers private lessons in nearly every discipline taught in the Academy in individual or small groups. These classes are perfect for home-school groups. Please contact us for more details!
