Metropolitan Ballet Theatre has been presenting the full-length traditional staging of The Nutcracker since 1989.  Year after year audiences are enchanted by MBT’s performances which feature student and professional dancers, fabulous costumes, and beautiful scenery  including a Christmas tree that seemingly grows forever, magical dancing dolls, marching toy soldiers, giant mice, a dazzling blizzard with dancing snowflakes and a land of luscious sweets.

Attention Girl Scouts!  Earn your Nutcracker Patch by attending one of our special “Chats” for Girl Scouts and other students after the performances on December 2nd (12pm & 4pm), December 3rd (5pm) and December 9th (12pm).  Stay in your seats after the performance for our “Patch Chat”!  MBT Commemorative Nutcracker patches (3.5″ round patches) are available for $3 at the gift table in the lobby or in advance by calling 301-762-1757.

New this season, Metropolitan Ballet Theatre has added a shorter-length version of this classic ballet, geared to young audiences! You’ll see Clara and her magical Nutcracker doll, enchanted dancing snowflakes, many characters from the Kingdom of Sweets, and the Sugar Plum Fairy!

Saturday, December 16:  1pm & 4pm

Sunday, December 17: 1pm & 4pm

This performance will be held in MBT’s Black Box Studio Theater, where children in the audience, and their grownups, can see a classical ballet in our intimate setting. Stay after to meet the cast for photos!

Please call or click for tickets. Only 60 seats are available in this theater for each performance. These will sell out quickly!

All tickets are general admission and each person requires a ticket, per fire marshal regulations.

Each performance of The Nutcracker Suite will last under 45 minutes with no intermission. Patrons are invited to meet cast members for photos after the performance.

“Shel” We Dance

Presented by the Metropolitan Ballet Ensemble at the Gaithersburg Arts Barn.

The whimsical and quirky poems of Shel Silverstein come to life through dance in this short-length contemporary ballet, inspiring our young audience members to read. Meet the performers and enjoy snacks and a craft activity after the performance. Recommended for ages 4 and up.

MBT’s 5th Annual Gala & Dance Concert

MBT hosts an annual season-end Gala & Dance Concert to celebrate our students’ and faculty members’accomplishments, to raise funds, to acknowledge our donors and corporate sponsors, and most importantly to enjoy an evening of demonstrations and performances from all of our student class levels.  All students are given the opportunity to take the stage.  The professional Metropolitan Ballet Ensemble premiered at the first Gala & Dance Concert in May 2013.

 

Tickets include seating for one of two dance concerts (please specify when ordering tickets) as well as access to receptions including food and drink, silent auction, DJ Dance party celebration, and all the fun for the evening!

Cinderella, a ballet in two acts

Metropolitan Ballet Theatre presents a different full-length ballet each spring, and this years production of “Cinderella, a ballet in two acts,” is sure to delight audiences of all ages!

You’ll watch as the lovely Cinderella meets her whimsical Fairy Godmother, the fateful Fairies of the four seasons, and then before midnight, she meets her handsome Prince. The stepsisters and stepmother might try to diminish Cinderella’s beautiful spirit, but Cinderella, with the help of her friends, is destined to become the kingdom’s Princess and live happily ever after.

MBT’s Black Box Studio Theater

Metropolitan Ballet Ensemble presents Shel We Dance, a new short-length ballet based on the poetry of Shel Silverstein, at 2:00 pm on January 22nd, followed by fun activities for our young Shel Silverstein fans!

With original and fun choreography by Elizabeth Odell Catlett and Katerina Rodgaard, your children will delight in seeing the poetry of Shel Silverstein come alive in this new short-length, original contemporary ballet, and to meet the performers.  Young Shel fans can stay and join us after the performance for a free snack and craft activity!

Every attendee needs a ticket. This performance is age-appropriate for children of all ages.  Minors may not attend without a parent/guardian.

World Premiere of Becoming Sugar Plum, an original fairytale ballet

Before she ruled the Kingdom of Sweets as the Sugar Plum Fairy, she was the sweet Princess Plum from Fairyland. One mystical dream, one dangerous journey, and one very courageous dance leads the Princess to her destiny as an admired, kind ruler.

You’ll meet the beautiful fairies from Fairyland, the unpleasant King Dross and creatures from the Bitter Land, and the worried prince from the Land of Sweets. It is brave Princess Plum’s fate to bring these lands together.

See her story unfold March 18-20, 2016 in Becoming Sugar Plum, an original fairytale ballet from Metropolitan Ballet Theatre.
