2017

June – Staff from MBT visited with fifth graders at Rachel Carson ES and first graders at Summit Hall ES for Career Days

May 20 – The Metropolitan Ballet Ensemble provided a free performance of excerpts from Shel We Dance at the Gaithersburg Book Festival, Gaithersburg

May 10 – The Metropolitan Ballet Ensemble performed Shel We Dance along with classical ballet variations for members at the Holiday Park Senior Center, Wheaton

May 7 – Students performed at Washington Hebrew’s community carnival , Potomac

April – MBT hosted students from MCPS Middle School for the Performing Arts for master classes in Ballet and Jazz, field trip to MBT, Gaithersburg

April 21 – The Metropolitan Ballet Ensemble visited Summit Hall ES with Shel We Dance, Cultural Arts Assembly, Gaithersburg

April 7 – The Metropolitan Ballet Ensemble visited Barnesville School with Shel We Dance, Cultural Arts Assembly, Boyds

March 31 – The Metropolitan Ballet Ensemble visited Brookhaven ES with Shel We Dance, Cultural Arts Assembly, Rockville

March 17 – MBT hosted students from MCPS’s public performing arts magnet program – Loiederman Middle School – to view MBT’s working dress rehearsal of Cinderella

February 20 – Metropolitan Ballet Ensemble presented Stories of Dr. Seuss at the Gaithersburg Arts Barn, Gaithersburg

February 3 and 10 –  Metropolitan Ballet Ensemble visited Rachel Carson ES with Shel We Dance, Cultural Arts Assembly, Gaithersburg

January 22 – Metropolitan Ballet Ensemble premiered Shel We Dance at MBT’s Black Box Studio Theater; portion of tickets offered for free through community service agencies

January 16 – MBT offered a free choreography workshop in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.’s Day of Service

2016

December 21 – Metropolitan Ballet Ensemble visited Sargent Shriver ES with Shel We Dance, Cultural Arts Assembly, Silver Spring

December – MBT students visited Arden Courts of Kensington (senior Alzheimer’s/dementia residential facility) to perform a shortened version of The Nutcracker

December – MBT offered free “patch chats” to Girl Scouts and other students after select performances of The Nutcracker

December 7 and 9 – Metropolitan Ballet Ensemble opened its season and visited Gaithersburg ES with Shel We Dance, Cultural Arts Assembly, Gaithersburg

December 7 – MBT participated in “Whole Foods for Arts Education Day.” Thank you to Whole Foods Market!

November 25-26 – MBT staffed the gift wrapping table at Barnes & Noble and brought storytime and dance demonstrations to the bookstore, Gaithersburg

November 20 – MBT hosted Sugar Plum Tea Parties and performances for the community at MBT’s Black Box Studio Theater, Gaithersburg

November 8 – MBT students visited Ring House Senior residential community with free performance of Nutcracker excerpts and class demonstrations, Rockville

November 2 – MBT hosted a panel discussion with GGCC regarding nonprofit/corporate partnerships

October 9 – MBT students performed and taught demonstrations at Gaitherburg’s Oktoberfest

September 15 – MBT staff participated in the GGCC Nonprofit Showcase and volunteer picnic, Gaithersburg

August 14 & 27 – MBT hosted an Open House with free sample classes for the community at MBT’s studios, Gaithersburg

December – MBT Faculty member Katie Smith, a former elementary classroom teacher, visited Diamond ES in Gaithersburg 3 times over the month to deliver a 3-part Nutcracker-themed lesson. The students participated in activities and discussions aligned to the academic standards for Kindergarten, designed to enhance their understanding of the arts and how it relates to their world.

November 28-29 – Dancer demonstrations, Nutcracker character meet-n-greets, and story readings at Barnes & Noble in Gaithersburg

November – May – free weekly ballet classes with MBT faculty at the Judy Center, the preschool associated with Summit Hall ES, a Title 1 school in Gaithersburg, MD
