Registration is open! Five reasons to explore MBT for your child now!

Registration is now open for Metropolitan Ballet Theatre & Academy’s 2018-2019 school year!

Here are five great reasons to explore MBT for your child this year, or #5reasons4MBT:

1. MBT has been providing exceptional dance education to Montgomery County youth since 1989.

In a nurturing environment, students age 3-adult explore dance and creativity. While MBT’s focus is in classical ballet training, we offer other disciplines as well, including Modern, Contemporary, Jazz, Street Jazz, and Hip Hop.

2. All classes are taught by professional dancers and degreed, experienced dance educators.

Academy instructors bring a variety of experience and knowledge to MBT students. Additional guest artists come to MBT from around the country for master classes throughout the academic year and Summer Ballet Intensive instruction in July. All academic year instructors at MBT’s Academy have professional performance experience and/or are dance educators with extensive teaching experience and degrees in dance pedagogy.

3. MBT offers professional performing opportunities for students starting at age 7. (Nutcracker auditions are Sept. 8th) MBT’s 30th annual production of The Nutcracker opens November 30, 2018!

MBT audiences enjoy a rich 30-year tradition of beautiful full-length ballets performed at the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center twice annually.  Each December MBT presents The Nutcracker for 9-10 performances, and each spring MBT presents a varied full-length ballet for 4-5 performances. (Alice in Wonderland was presented in 2018, Cinderella in 2017, Becoming Sugar Plum in 2016, Sleeping Beauty in 2015. The 2018 title will be announced early this fall!) All MBT students who audition for one of the two major ballet productions are cast in a role, and have the opportunity to dance alongside professional artists. We present additional, more intimate performances from our students and MBT’s professional company, the Metropolitan Ballet Ensemble in MBT’s Black Box Theater in Gaithersburg throughout the year.

4. MBT is dedicated to community service.

MBT is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit arts education organization, dedicated to providing arts opportunities for all through exceptional dance education, community outreach, and inspiring performances. Our primary community outreach programs include Scholarships, Ticket Giveaways, free after-school programming at Title 1 elementary schools, free or low-cost Cultural Arts Assemblies at elementary schools and senior centers, and an outreach partnership with Girl Scouts of the Nation’s Capital. Additionally, MBT’s Adaptive Dance program encourages integration into mainstream classes in ballet or other disciplines for ambulatory dancers with special needs ranging from developmental, orthopedic, cognitive, and behavioral impairments. MBT considers its responsibility to our community seriously and we strive to bring arts education and dance programming beyond our walls frequently.
